Branches of the Religion

The Branches of the Religion are ten:

There are obligatory Salat for a Muslim to perform, one of which is the five daily prayers. These arc obligatory on those who have become baligh. For the purpose of fulfillment of religious obligations, a boy becomes baligh after completing 15 years and a girl on the completion of 9 years (or earlier - for a detailed explanation, look at the books of Islamic laws).

2. Sawm [Fasting]
Fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan is wajib for a Muslim. The observance of the fast of the Month of Ramadan becomes obligatory from the day following the appearance of the new moon of the month of Ramadan until the night when the new moon of the following month is seen.

The other half belongs to the 12th Imam and must be paid to his representatives (Maraja' Taqlid) or those whom they have given permission to collect on their behalf.

5. Hajj [Pilgrimage to Mecca]
Going to Mecca to visit the House of Allah for the pilgrimage, is called the Hajj. The Ha'' becomes obligatory on one who has the funds to travel to Mecca and return home, as well as the funds to maintain his family while he is gone. The Hajj is performed in the last month of the Islamic calendar, called Dhu al-Hijjah.

6. Jihad [Struggle]
Jihad means to fight in the way of Allah. Jihad literally means to strive and struggle, and this can be in various ways and different forms. It can also include fighting one's own soul to prevent it from causing a person to commit forbidden acts.

7. Amr bil Ma'ruf [Enjoining what is right]
Guiding and encouraging other people to performing good deeds and actions.

8. Nahi anil Munkar [Forbidding what is wrong]
Preventing and stopping people from committing bad actions.

(Amaali - Shaikh Sadooq, p195)

Haqiqi Yateem

Hazrat Rasul Allah (saww) Farmate hain,

Jise yeh ilm nahi ke me jin shara’ee cheezon ka moqallif hoon unke bare me mere Imam ka faisla kya hai.

Yeh bhi yateem-e-Ale-Mohammad hai. Aaga raho jo shaks hamare shiyon me se hamare uloom ka Alim hai,

Yeh hamara yateem uski goad me hai, Jo usko hamara raasta dekhayga aur hamara martaba batayga, Aur hamari shariyat samjayga. Woh hamare buland darje me hamare saat hoga.

The Acceptable Characteristics

Ali ibn Husayn [a] the fourth Imam, was once asked how he, the son of the Messenger of Allah began each morning, and he [a] replied

"I begin each morning while I am demanded of eight virtues

Allah, the Exalted, demands of me the obligatory;

The Prophet [s] demands of me his tradition (Sunnah);

Family dependents demand of me food (material);

The self looks for desires;

Satan demands me (to commit) sin;

The two protective angels demand of me virtuousness,

The angel of death demands of me the spirit and,

The grave demands of me my body.

Therefore, I am, surrounded by these traits, demanded."

Halal, Mustahabb, Mubah, Makrooh & Haram

There are two main categories in Islam; Halal (permissible) and haram (forbidden). What is halal is divided into 4 sub-divisions based on the way in which they were made allowable.

1. Wajib/Fard = obligatory:
It is something that must be done, if we do it we’re rewarded for it if we don’t (on purpose) we’re punished for it, if we don’t repent. Allah has told us what is wajib Quran [59:7] and Quran [5:97]. It is wajib to worship Allah alone and follow His commands.

The purpose behind the category of wajib acts is:

1) To identify for humans the absolutely essential acts which we must do in order to help us succeed in both this life and the next.
2) To train the beliver in submission to God, which is the foundation of righteousness.
3) To provide a basic framework of righteous deeds for the believers life.

2. Mustahabb = recommended:
These are acts which are encouraged by the Prophet (sawa). If we do them we’re rewarded, if we don’t we’re not punished no matter what. These acts are here to help us get used to obey Allah and His Prophet (sawa), and by the doing the mustahabb acts the wajib acts will be easier for us to do. Acts classified as Mustahabb are those which
a) The Prophet (as) used to do regularly,
b) those he recommended,
c) those who were wajib but later made mustahabb, for example ghusl on Fridays were fard but not anymore and
d) thise which he prohibited and then later recommended, like visiting the graves.

The purpose behind the mustahabb acts is:

1) To identify certain beneficial acts which humans may not necessarily realize,
2) To train humans in obeying God. Each compulsory act is as equivalent as an recommended version.
3) To protect the wajib acts with a shield of other good acts. If a believer becomes weak and neglect acts, it would be from the mustahabb that he does so and not the wajib ones.
4) To provide a body of good deeds which can make up for deficiencies in the wajib acts.

3. Mubah = allowed:
These are some acts that are allowed and they don’t affect our faith or relationship with God.

4. Makrooh = disliked:
If we don’t do these acts we will be rewarded, but if we do them there is no punishment. But it is better to avoid them because they may be harmful for us and they can lead to haram actions.

The purpose behind makrooh acts:

1) To protect us from some harmful acts if we abstain from the makrooh to begin with,
2) Avoiding it trains man in self-control and it’s easier to avoid haram acts if you avoid the makrooh and
3) To place a barrier between the believer and the haram acts so that in times of weakness a person would only fall into the disliked rather than the forbidden.

5. Haram = forbidden:
An act is haram if Allah or His Messenger (sawa) ordered us not to do it, without making any exceptions. If we avoid these acts we are rewarded if we don’t we are punished.

The purpose behind the haram acts is:

1) To protect man from things which are extremely harmful to him and society, either physically or spiritually.
2) To test mans faith and differentiate between true believers, weak believers and disbelievers,
3) To help develop mans awareness of Allah by forcing him to refrain from certain acts even though he may not be able to perceive the harm in it.

Forgiveness

Holy Prophet (SAWS) said:

"The Believer, when he seeks forgiveness and repent,
Allah (SWT) will open upon him one thousand door of Mercy in the World and Hereafter,
his morning  and evening will be upon satisfaction of Allah (SWT),
and Allah (SWT) has written for him,
voluntarily worship of one year for every bowing of his prayers (Namaz),
He (SWT) has granted him light (Noor) on the Bridge (Siraat) for every verse he recited in his prayers (Namaz),
and Allah (SWT) has written for him reward of a Prophet for his every day and night,
for him is a reward of a Hajj and Umrah for every letter of glorification and forgiveness he sought,
and a city for every verse recited in Holy Quran,
and Allah (SWT) will illuminate his grave and brighten his face,
for him is light (Noor) for every hair on his body,
it is as if he has given charity of gold equal to its weight,
it is as if he has freed salves equal to the number of stars,
he will not face the hardship of the day of Judgement,
amusement will be in his grave,
and he will find his grave as one of the garden of gardens of paradise,
everyday one thousand Angles will visit his grave and will entertain him in his grave,
he will be resurrected from his grave while upon him will be seventy costumes,
and while wearing the Crown of Mercy on his head,
he will be resided underneath of shadow of Divine Throne along with the Prophets and Martyrs,
and will eat and drink until Allah (SWT) completes reckoning of rest of the creation,

Then He (SWT) will direct him towards Paradise and Holy Prophet (SAWS) completed his sermon.

Then Holy Prophet (SAWS) advanced little and said:

"One who seeks forgiveness a year before his death, Allah (SWT) will accept his seeking forgiveness,

Then he said beware a year is long, one who seek forgiveness from Allah (SWT) a month before he dies, Allah (SWT) will accept his seeking forgiveness,

And he said a month is long, one who seek forgiveness a Friday before he dies, Allah (SWT) will accept his seeking forgiveness,

Then he said A Friday is long, one who seek forgiveness a day before he dies, Allah (SWT) will accept his seeking forgiveness,

Then he said a day is long, one who seek forgiveness a hour before he dies, Allah (SWT) will accept his seeking forgiveness,

Then he said a hour is long, one who seek forgiveness just before the gargling of death, certainly Allah (SWT) will accept his seeking forgiveness.

Tibb e Nabi Akram (saww)

Rasule Khuda (saww):
Bartano'n ko aur paani ke zaroof (container / mattke) ko band kar (dhha'nk kar) ke rakha karo kyun ki saal mein ek aisi shab hoti hai jisme Wabaa (epidemic / mahamaari) faailti hai, to jo bartan ya paani ka mattka khula hota hai usme Waba (virus) daakhil ho jaati hai.

(Tibb e Nabi Akram (saww), p29)

MASJID

1. Imam Sadiq (as):
'Tawraat' mein likha hai ke zameen par Mere ghar Masajid hai. Khush qismat hai wo banda jo apne ghar Wuzu kar ke Mere ghar Meri Ziyarat ke liye aata hai. Jaan lo ke Ziyarat karwaane waale ke liye Zaireen ki takreem (izzat / honour) karna zaruri hai.
(Sawaabul Aamaal, p59)

2. Imam Baqir (as):
Rasuke Khuda (saww) ne Jibraeel (as) se sawaal kiya, "Aye Jibraeel! Zameen par sab se zyada mubarak jagah kaun si hai jisko Khuda pasand karta hai?"
Jibraeel (as) ne jawaab mein arz kiya, "Ya Rasulallah (saww)! Wo jagah Masjid hai aur Allah ki bargaah mein sab se zyada wo banda mehboob hai jo sabse pehle Masjid mein aaye aur sabse aakhir mein Masjid se jaaye".
Phir aap (saww) ne sawaal kiya, "Zameen ka wo kaun sa tukda hai jo Khuda ke gazab ka baais banta hai?"
Jibraeel (as) ne arz kiya, "Wo Bazaar hain aur wo log jo bazaar mein sab se pehle jaate hain aur sabse aakhir mein karobaar band kar ke aate hain Khuda ke gazab ke mustahaq hain".
(Amaali - Shaikh Toosi, v1, p379)

3. Imam Ali (as):
Jo Masajid mein aate jaate rehte hain wo 8 cheezo'n mein se (kam az kam) Ek cheez ko (zaroor) haasil karenge:
